ACTIVITIES/ENTERTAINMENTS/SPECIAL OCCASIONS

Here at Park House as well as responding to everyday needs we also provide support and stimulation to augment resident's emotional, intellectual, physical and social requirements. Activities and entertainments are designed to promote a positive therapeutic milieu and positive well being for our residents. It is our belief that improving people's general level of contentment serves to improve mood, and reduces anxiety.

We have various people come into the home on a regular basis to provide entertainment and activities for the residents. If it is their wish residents are encouraged to join in. Below are some of the activities and entertainments you can expect to find at Park House

TOJO ON A VISIT FROM THE DONKEY SANCTUARY

We believe that animals are a valuable aid in reaching out to the elderly. Animals have a calming effect on humans and benefit mental well-being, especially with children and the elderly.

YOGA

Yoga is becoming increasingly popular, the essence of yoga is to keep the body, mind and spirit in a healthy state. It does this through a variety of ways such as, exercise, breathing, relaxation and concentration.

 Music

Music can be used with the elderly to increase or maintain their level of physical, mental, and social/emotional functioning. The sensory and intellectual stimulation of music can help maintain a person’s quality of life.

PSYCHOTHERAPIST/COMPLEMENTARY THERAPIST

Maggy Jones is a registered Psychotherapist and Aromatherapist and offers a weekly afternoon of special ‘time for me’ to individual residents using a combination of talking and touch therapies to relax or stimulate the mind and body. Maggy says that “human touch can significantly reduce anxiety in older people and help calm an agitated mind.”
